Responsibilities
The City Attorney’s Office performs the following functions:
• Provides legal advice to the City Council, City Manager, and city staff on municipal legal matters.
• Drafts and reviews ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and legal documents.
• Represents the city in litigation and legal proceedings.
• Assists in the enforcement of city codes and regulations.
• Attends City Council meetings and advises on parliamentary procedure and legal issues.
• Attends City Board and Commission meetings as requested.
• Oversees legal aspects of city policies, land use, zoning, and employment matters.
City Prosecutor
The City Attorney also appoints and oversees prosecution services for the Fredericksburg Municipal Court, handling cases involving violations of city ordinances, traffic laws, and Class C misdemeanors.
