Currently, the City of Fredericksburg’s Street Sweeping Program involves street sweeping operations in the downtown and other high-traffic areas twice per week, usually in the early morning hours, in an effort to clean gutters and prevent debris and other contaminants from reaching creeks and waterways. Additional residential streets are also swept after large storm events and as part of the City’s annual paving program, as needed.
As part of ongoing efforts to provide safe and clean roadways for all users, including both vehicular and non-vehicular traffic, the City will be adding quarterly street sweeping that will include ALL City-maintained streets to the Street Sweeping Program. This program is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, after completion of the Fall/Winter Leaf Collection Program and will be administered by the Street and Stormwater/Vegetation Management Divisions. This program is being added to the list of services already provided by the City including residential curbside brush chipping and leaf collection programs.
The map below provides additional information regarding the planned schedule for sweeping operations. The schedule is subject to change due to weather and other variables so additional information will be provided as the program progresses. However, property owners can help the efficiency and effectiveness of street sweeping by moving parked vehicles from the street during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. when the sweepers are scheduled to be in their area.
