Hiring Off-Duty Officers
The Fredericksburg Police Department offers the opportunity to hire off-duty officers to provide security services for events that take place within the city limits of Fredericksburg and are within department policy.
In order to efficiently respond to requests and manage the employment of off-duty police officers, the Fredericksburg Police Department has partnered with Off Duty Management to provide services related to hiring off-duty officers effective May 27th, 2024.
Officers work off-duty assignments on a voluntary basis. Therefore, there is no guarantee that your request will be fulfilled. Submit your request as soon as possible to allow enough time for processing.
You may request to hire off-duty police officers for security through the Off Duty Management web-based service, OfficerTRAK®, or by calling the toll-free number below.
Off Duty Management provides the following to the customer:
- Online access to information through the OfficerTRAK® software including:
- Job status
- Officer attendance
- Field notes and media files
- Post orders and instructions
- Past and future shift information
- Full liability coverage for the customer, the agency and officer
- 24/7 customer service through the toll-free number
- Dedicated point of contact for scheduling and invoicing
- Officer payroll

Below are the hourly rates for hiring each type of off-duty officer.
Please note there is a four-hour minimum per request and two-hour request for funeral escorts.
- Regular: $61.60/hour
- Supervisor: $67.20/hour
- Holiday: $72.80/hour
- Emergency: $72.80/hour
- Funeral Escorts: $61.60/hour
- Vehicle: $11.20/hour
Supervisor
The Supervisor rate will apply if four or more officers are required for an event such that one of the four officers is a supervisor.
Holiday
The holiday rate will apply to the following days: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Memorial weekend, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and County Fair weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the last weekend in August).
Emergency
If a request is received less than 72 hours prior to the desired assignment date, the emergency rate goes into effect.
Vehicle
The Fredericksburg Police Department is the sole determiner of whether a patrol vehicle is necessary and if so, how many are needed. The fee is assessed per vehicle. You will be billed after the event for the Vehicle Fee. This is a mandatory fee.
- Any employment that constitutes a threat to the status or dignity of the police as a professional occupation such as employment at establishments that sell pornographic materials or items of a sexual nature to include establishments that provide services of a sexual nature
- Any gambling establishment
- Any employment or business interest in private investigative work or investigative work for an insurance company or attorney
- Process server, bill collector, repossessing property, towing vehicles or other similar employment in which police authority might be used

By hiring an off-duty officer(s), you agree that this is a binding agreement between you/your organization and the off-duty officer(s) that is assigned to your event. These officers take great pride in off-duty assignments and adjust their personal schedules to accommodate your event needs.
Customers cancelling or reducing an assignment after the start of the assignment shall pay the greater of officer hours worked or the agency minimum hours plus ODM administrative fees for the first 24 hours of the original assignment.
