Sanitary Landfill

The City of Fredericksburg operates a Type I Subtitle D Sanitary Landfill, ensuring efficient and environmentally responsible waste management for the residents of Gillespie County. 

Located  at 204 Landfill Lane, Fredericksburg, TX 78624, which is two miles east of Highway 290 on Ranch Road 1631, the landfill is dedicated to handling garbage generated within the county, adhering to strict regulations to maintain public health and environmental safety. 

Only garbage generated within Gillespie County may be accepted into the City of Fredericksburg Sanitary Landfill.

Operating Hours and Services

The landfill is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. The facility offers a range of services, including automated refuse collection for approximately 5,500 residential customers, brush chipping, and leaf collection programs. These materials are processed into compost and mulch, which are sold to recover costs. 

Recycling Initiatives

The Recycling Center, located at 302 East Ufer Street, plays a crucial role in the City's sustainability efforts. It accepts aluminum, corrugated cardboard, tin cans, and residential yard waste. This initiative helps reduce landfill waste and promotes recycling within the community. 

Recent Projects and Developments

The Sanitation Department has undertaken several projects to enhance landfill operations, including the development of new cells and a preliminary engineering study on a solid waste transfer station project. These efforts aim to improve waste management efficiency and support the City's commitment to environmental stewardship.
