Teen Court

Started in September 2024, Teen Court is a legally binding alternative justice system for youth. It promotes accountability and community engagement. Offenders can make restitution through community service, educational classes, and jury service.

In Teen Court, a referred person has already pled guilty or no contest. A teen jury determines sentencing, which includes community service hours and jury terms. Teen attorneys present evidence, and the jury deliberates and announces the verdict. The Municipal Court Judge presides over the proceedings.

Teen volunteers can take on various legal roles such as attorneys, jurors, and bailiffs.

Adult volunteers include attorney mentors, jury facilitators, and coordinators. Attorney mentors provide legal guidance, jury facilitators manage jury processes, and coordinators oversee volunteer activities.
