The Fredericksburg City Council has recently established a new fund called the Fredericksburg Police Foundation Fund. The fund has been set up at the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, a 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation, and accepts charitable donations that help the Fredericksburg Police Department. The donations received by the foundation will be utilized to purchase equipment, provide officer training and scholarships, and any other non-budgetary items that the department requires. All donations made to the fund are fully tax-deductible.
Current Foundation Initiatives:
Officer Housing Campaign- The Fredericksburg Police Department Foundation Fund Housing Grant Program is designed to provide grants to qualified Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) Officers and officer candidates who have a final offer of employment from FPD for down payment and/or closing costs to make the purchase of homes in Gillespie County more attainable.
Officer Training & Education- The Fredericksburg Police Department prioritizes the professional growth and development of its staff, empowering individuals to achieve their full potential. Opportunities for career advancement are available from the time of initial employment and beyond. As soon as trainees are hired, they begin their classes and training, receive full pay, and are appointed to the rank of Cadet. Generally, FPD will sponsor Cadets who require a Peace Officer License through six months of specialized training at the Alamo Regional Law Enforcement Academy in San Antonio, Texas.
Equipment- Police officers require a wide range of equipment to carry out their duties effectively. This equipment includes everyday essentials as well as specialized tools, each designed to improve police outcomes in unique ways. Officers must be well-equipped to carry out a variety of tasks, including providing first aid, collecting evidence, interviewing persons of interest, securing an area, and subduing an assailant. This is why law enforcement equipment covers a broad range, from cameras to protective gear; officers must be prepared for anything that comes their way.
