Fredericksburg Police Department Pay Step-Plan

Police Step Plan FY2026

*One grade/step is equal to one year of experience. Lateral transfers qualify for up to Step 10.

Police Officer:

To become a Police Officer, candidates must undergo a comprehensive selection process designed to assess both physical and mental readiness. The process includes:

  • Physical and Written Exams
  • Employee Interview Board
  • Thorough Background Check
  • Psychological Testing
  • Polygraph Exam
  • Medical Screening

Civilian/Non-Sworn:

For individuals applying for civilian or non-sworn positions, the process includes:

  • Interview
  • Polygraph Exam
  • Medical Screening
  • Background Check
  • Additional tests may be required depending on the position.

All applicants who successfully complete the required steps will be added to a New Employee Hiring List. This list will remain active for approximately six months or until all positions are filled.
