Please note that by turning in an application and summer availability form does not guarantee an interview.

Lifeguards
The lifeguard interview process is a 3-phase interview process. Qualifying candidates will be invited to the 1st phase, a formal interview. After a formal interview, some lifeguard applicants may be invited to the 2nd phase of the interview process, the American Red Cross Pre-Requisite test out.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Pre-Requisites
- Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest. Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Participants must show breath control during swim.
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 ft. to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course
After successfully completing the pre-requisites, some applicants may be invited to participate in the 3rd phase of the lifeguard interview process, the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course. The City of Fredericksburg has 2 - American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructors who certify all applicants in-house free of charge. The ARC Lifeguarding course is a blended learning course where applicants are required to complete online learning content prior to the in-person portion of the course. The in-person portion of the course is offered over the course of a weekend before opening the pools for the season. The ARC Lifeguarding course takes roughly 28 hours total to complete.
Cashiers
Cashier job opportunities will be posted in April 2026.
The Pool Cashier is responsible for handling and accounting for money, filing, answering telephones, performing simple arithmetic, analyzing data report information and dealing effectively with the public. Applicants must be 14 years of age or older. Previous cashier experience or previous work experience is preferred. Availability to work mornings, afternoons, weekends and some holidays is required.
