[ARCHIVED] City Prepares for Annual Fourth of July Festivities

Fredericksburg, Texas – The City of Fredericksburg will host a pair of events to celebrate Independence Day on Thursday, July 4. 

 

The 2024 Fourth of July Parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Main Street.  

 

There is no charge to enter the parade and the only requirement for participation is that the entry be patriotically decorated. 

 

Applications to participate in the parade can be picked up at the Fredericksburg Visitor Information Center at 302 E. Austin St. during normal business hours or downloaded from the official parade website: FBGTXparade.org.  

 

This year’s parade theme is “America the Beautiful” and is slated to feature over 100 patriotic entries. Starting at Adams St., the parade will travel east on Main St. before u-turning at Washington St. and continuing west on Main until Bowie St. 

 

The parade will also be streamed live and available for re-watch by FBG.live.

 

Meanwhile, they City’s annual fireworks show at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, 432 Lady Bird Drive, will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 as well.

 

Numerous sites are available to view the fireworks, in addition to Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. Citizens and visitors can view the fireworks from the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, Oakcrest Park, and the Gillespie County Airport & Hangar Hotel. The Hangar Hotel will have live music and beverages for sale at both the Tiki Bar and the Officers Club. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair for seating.

 

After the fireworks, the Fredericksburg Police Department will assist vehicles exiting Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, the airport and fairgrounds parking areas. 

 

For those parked on Tivydale Road (FM 2093) west of Kerr Road, vehicles will be forced to take Tivydale (FM 2093) westbound or Kerr Road northbound to exit.


For those leaving the fairgrounds on Fair Drive at Tivydale (FM 2093), vehicles will need to turn westbound on Tivydale or north on Kerr Road. Access to Highway 16 from this exit will not be permitted.


For those leaving the fairgrounds on Fair Drive at Highway 16, vehicles can turn right to access Highway 16 South or left to the inside lane of Highway 16 North.

For those exiting Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, vehicles can turn right to access Highway 16 South or left to the inside lane of Highway 16 North.


For those leaving the parking lots at Gillespie County Airport or Hangar Hotel, please turn left onto Fair Drive to exit to Tivydale/FM 2093. Those headed eastbound to State Highway 16 will be forced to turn on Kerr Road, headed north. You can then access State Highway 16 off Pyka Rd. or W. Live Oak St.

 

City officials ask those exiting the Fairgrounds parking lot to exit on Fair Drive to access State Highway 16 North or South.

 

In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks show will be rescheduled to Thursday, July 11. 


The City’s aquatic facilities will be open on July 4, including Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park Pool (1-6:30 p.m.) and Coach Tony Knopp Town (1-6:30 p.m.) and the Splash Pad from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
