Winter Storm Fern Update – Sunday, Jan. 25 Afternoon

Press Releases Posted on January 25, 2026

Fredericksburg, Texas – City of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County officials caution that Monday morning may bring the most dangerous travel conditions of Winter Storm Fern, as existing ice and overnight refreezing are expected to significantly worsen roadway safety.

Despite light traffic over the weekend, roads remain extremely hazardous and conditions may deteriorate further by morning.

Officials also extend their gratitude to residents who have stayed home and used caution throughout the storm. Community cooperation has reduced incidents and supported ongoing response operations.

Road Conditions
Reports from throughout the county indicated only limited melting has occurred today, and roads across Gillespie County remain very hazardous.

Many county roads are shifting from white ice to clear ice, making travel extremely unsafe. The west and north side of the county remain frozen with little melting, while the east side is slushy but still slick. City streets also remain unsafe.

All residents are urged to stay home and avoid driving while City, County, and TxDOT crews continue working to improve conditions. Residents are reminded to call 911 in the event of an emergency, and to use 830‑997‑8080 for non‑emergency assistance.

Electrical Outages

On Sunday, electric outages were very limited and resolved quickly.

The largest electric outage of the weekend came just after 4 p.m. on Saturday, areas on the north side of Fredericksburg experienced a power outage Saturday afternoon affecting both City of Fredericksburg Electric (estimated 1,500) and CTEC (over 1,500) customers. Full power was restored to all City Electric customers by 6:40 p.m.
