[ARCHIVED] Cross Mountain Park Ribbon Cutting Set For June 25

View of Cross Mountain Park

Fredericksburg, Texas – The City of Fredericksburg will mark the installation of a new cross and plaque at Cross Mountain Park with a dedication event on Tuesday, June 25 at 10 a.m.

The ribbon cutting ceremony, handled by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce, will take place at the top of the mountain and attendees can either walk or be transported up by ATVs.

Donated by the Nimitz Rotary Club, the new cross was installed by a Parks and Recreation Department crew on February 28. The City’s Electric Department then added lighting to the cross.

The City would like to thank the Nimitz Rotary Club for their donation to Cross Mountain Park.

About Cross Mountain Park

Located on North Milam just at the outskirts of town, Cross Mountain is a historic marl and limestone hill with an elevation of 1951 ft. It was used as a Native American lookout prior to the town’s settlement. In 1847, a timber cross was found on the hilltop. Early Fredericksburg pioneers gave this hill the name “Kreuzberg” or Cross Mountain. In 1946, the permanent lighted cross was raised. Recently worked was completed by volunteers to add a new trail and three picnic areas. Cross Mountain Park is open dawn to dusk. There is no fee to enter the park.
