Jeryl Hoover is a native of Odessa, Texas. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from West Texas A&M (formerly West Texas State University) and a Doctorate in Musical Arts from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991.
Hoover served as a minister for 15 years, mainly in Austin. He and his wife, Ruthann, and their three sons became Fredericksburg residents in 1996. All three sons graduated from FHS, and two (Ryan and John) still live in town with their families, including three grandchildren. Their third son, Thomas, lives in Buda, with his wife and fourth grandchild.
Hoover founded the Fredericksburg Theater Company in 1997, serving as Managing/Artistic Director until 2011. He served as Executive Director of the Gillespie County Historical Society and Pioneer Museum from June 2015 through August 2021. Hoover has served as mayor from 2006-2010, 2012-2014 and 2022-present.
