Volunteer Park Hosts

The City of Fredericksburg is looking for volunteer Park Hosts for Fort Martin Scott. The Park Host position requires all park hosts to be able to stay for at least three (3) months with an option to extend another six (6) months. Park host will agree to work 25 hours weekly in exchange for a RV site with water/sewer/electric utility hookups. 

Volunteer park hosts give visitors their first impression of Fort Martin Scott. They provide hospitality to visitors and promote safe use of park facilities. They also give valuable insights on customer experiences and impressions to park staff through their daily contact with visitors. Park Hosts may provide but are not limited to the following services: Greet, check in, and direct site visitors. Run entrance stations. Use cash register and computers to collect park fees and submit proper paperwork to report sales & revenues collected. Provide information on park facilities, rules, reservations, fees and orient customers to the park. Provide information to help customers enjoy all the park offers. Be accessible to customers to provide general assistance and answer questions as well as receive complaints and comments. Help maintain park – light maintenance, some push mowing, weed eating, pick up litter, recycling, empty garbage cans, clean & resupply restrooms, minor repairs including painting, daily checks on buildings and grounds to ensure they are clean for the next guest. Assist at special events. Other projects may be assigned based on site needs and hosts’ skills and interests. 

Must be able to volunteer at the visitor’s center Thursday to Mondays: specific hours will be set depending on number of hosts typically between 10 am and 5 pm. Special events and holiday adjustments may be made. This is a Historic Site so an interest in history and willingness to learn about the Fort is required. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Park Hosts are provided a free campsite with water, electric, and sewer hookups and use of park facilities in return for volunteer service.
