The Fredericksburg Police Department sponsors a Citizen’s Police Academy to educate and introduce the public to the daily activities of it’s City Law Enforcement. The Academy is held on Tuesday nights 5:30 to 7:30 pm for eight weeks. Each week the class participants in presentations delivered by Officers of the Fredericksburg Police Department. Citizens learn about Department Organization, Texas Police Chief’s Association Accreditation Program, Patrol Divisions, Criminal and Juvenile Investigations, School Based Policing, Special Services and the FVPS Program. Academy participants tour the Gillespie County Jail, Law Enforcement Center, participate in practical Police Scenario’s and Range Day, where class members can shoot department weapons and learn about Taser, Less Lethal weapons and their use by officers. After graduation from the Citizen’s Police Academy, participants 18 years or older will be eligible to join the Fredericksburg Volunteers in Police Support. Print and fill out our Citizens Police Academy application and drop it by the Law Enforcement Center at 1601 East Main Street.
