Council Member Kathy O'Neill
Kathy spent the first part of her life in Illinois, attending college there and then earning a J.D. from Loyola Law School. She moved to Texas in 1981 and shortly thereafter attended the University of Texas receiving a Master of Arts degree. She practiced law in Austin and sat as an Administrative Law Judge for 12 years, after which she moved to Fredericksburg where she has made close friends and discovered retirement.
Life in Fredericksburg
In about 2005, Kathy was appointed to the Gillespie County Appraisal Review Board, served there for a total of six years, and in the Spring of 2011, was appointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. She was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in foster care and served on the Hill Country CASA governing board, as well as the Gillespie County Child Services Board. She volunteered with the Fredericksburg Farmers Market for ten years beginning in 2007.
Kathy has been interested in government since college and somehow found it fascinating to attend City Council meetings in this community. In February 2012, she signed up, and with the help of many friends encouraging her through that election period, and thanks to the voters of Fredericksburg, she was elected to the City Council. Since 2014, she has traveled often while she continuing volunteer activities, and in 2021, after again attending many Council meetings, she decided to run for City Council.
"I am privileged to have been elected this second time, and it is an honor to once again serve this very special City," stated O'Neill.
