Municipal Court
Court and Judges
The Municipal Court of the City of Fredericksburg is a non-record court established by city charter in accordance with state statutes. Judges are appointed by the City Council and serve for two year terms.

Jurisdiction
The municipal court has jurisdiction in several different areas of the law including:
  • C Misdemeanors - Offenses that are punishable by a fine not to exceed $500, including public intoxication, theft under $50, disorderly conduct, alcohol and tobacco offenses involving minors, assault violations, etc.
  • City Ordinance Violations - Violations of city codes including those for fire safety, zoning public health and sanitation, animal control, etc.
  • Traffic Violations - Includes moving and non-moving violations, commercial vehicle violations, failure to maintain financial responsibility, no driver's license, etc.

Appeals
Appeals are made to the Gillespie County Court and result in a new trial in that court.  Appeals are perfected by filing an Appeal Bond with the Clerk of the Municipal Court.  Appeals must be filed within 10 days of judgment and before paying the fine.  Payment of a fine waives the right to appeal. You may contact the Clerk of the Court for assistance.
