This morning, the Gillespie County Commissioners Court enacted the burn ban. Effective immediately, the Order issued prohibits any open burning in the unincorporated areas of Gillespie County except the burning of combustible material in approved enclosures designed to contain all flames and/or sparks.
Due to hot, dry conditions and the lack of significant rainfall, open burning is extremely likely to cause very dangerous wildfire, posing risks to lives and property. Local fire department officials, the National Weather Service, and Texas Forest Service personnel advise that there is no present forecast for improving conditions.
A violation of the Order signed by Judge Stroeher is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.
This order will expire either at the end of 90 days after the effective date shown on the order or upon a determination by the Commissioners Court, either by its own action or through the County Judge as its authorized agent, that the circumstances referred to herein no longer exist, whichever is earlier.
