City of Fredericksburg Animal Shelter

To better serve the community and enhance our adoption efforts, the City of Fredericksburg Animal Shelter is pleased to announce that on Saturday, December 7, 2019, the shelter will be extending its hours of operation to include Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Animal Shelter will continue to be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as well.

The City of Fredericksburg Animal Shelter is operated and funded by the City of Fredericksburg under the jurisdiction of the Fredericksburg Police Department.  The functions of the shelter and animal services are to enforce the City’s animal control laws and take in lost, stray, and owner surrendered dogs and cats.  The shelter works diligently through community outreach and social media to try to locate the owners of animals that become separated.  After four days, unclaimed stray and surrendered animals are evaluated and then put up for adoption.  At this time, the cats are socialized, and the dogs begin an obedience program as time allows.  Our minimal adoption fees include spaying/neutering, a rabies shot, microchip, deworming, and a free identification tag.
