Gillespie County Judge, Mark Stroeher, has issued notice that as of Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 8:30 a.m., the burn ban for Gillespie County has been lifted.
The action to lift the burn ban came after consultation with the County Fire Marshal, Steve Olfers, who advised that the Chiefs of the rural fire departments in the County were in agreement that the small amount of moisture we have had recently, together with the forecast for higher humidity, the possibility of some additional rain, and more stable conditions for the coming weekend, present a good opportunity for people to take care of some of the burning that needs to be done.
Judge Stroeher advised that even though we are still in severe drought conditions, with a significant potential for wildfires, the Commissioners Court, along with the fire departments in the County, want to work with the general public to accomplish some necessary burning while conditions are more favorable. Everyone is requested to use extreme caution when burning.
