Fort Martin Scott Living History: Preparing for Winter
Saturday, October 5, 2019
The theme for this program is "Preparing for the Winter". As Fort Martin Scott was a U.S. post on the frontier from 1848 to 1853, the soldiers had to be ready to be called to duty even in the winter months. Pioneers prepared for winter by canning, making candles, getting out the winter clothes, and making sure their supplies were plentiful. The Texas Rangers, who were always in the area, spent many winter months camped in or around the fort. They too had to make sure their equipment, weapons, and horses were ready to keep the peace.
Living history re-enactors will be on site for the event. There will be cannon firing and weapons demonstrations throughout the day.
